India Successfully Tests DRDO’s Gaurav Long-Range Glide Bomb from Sukhoi-30MKI
India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed flight trials of its cutting-edge Long-Range Glide Bomb (LRGB), named ‘Gaurav’, from April 8 to 10, 2025. These precision release trials were conducted using the Sukhoi-30MKI fighter aircraft, marking a major milestone in enhancing India's aerial strike capabilities and defense preparedness.
What is the Gaurav Glide Bomb?
The Gaurav is a state-of-the-art, precision-guided glide bomb developed by DRDO. With a range of 30 km to 150 km, it is designed to hit high-value targets well beyond the reach of conventional anti-aircraft systems. Weighing around 1,000 kg, Gaurav boasts a wingspan of 3.4 meters and a length of 4 meters, delivering powerful impact with pinpoint accuracy. Recent tests demonstrated an effective range nearing 100 km.
Advanced Technology and Design
Engineered with an inertial navigation system supported by satellite guidance, the Gaurav bomb ensures exceptional targeting precision. It is equipped with digital control systems to enhance reliability and maneuverability during deployment. DRDO developed the bomb in partnership with key defense research units including the Armament Research and Development Establishment, Research Centre Imarat, and the Integrated Test Range. Multiple configurations and warhead options were tested, ensuring versatile battlefield utility.
Make in India: Defence Collaboration
As part of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Gaurav glide bomb was developed with the involvement of leading Indian defense manufacturers such as Adani Defence Systems and Technologies and Bharat Forge, along with numerous MSMEs. This collaborative approach strengthens India’s indigenous defense production ecosystem and underscores its strategic focus on self-reliant military technology.
The successful test of the DRDO Gaurav Glide Bomb represents a significant leap forward in India’s long-range precision strike capabilities, reinforcing its position as a rising power in advanced defense systems.
